The answer depends on how the device is used. iPads can be powerful tools for children with autism, offering access to communication apps, visual schedules, and interactive learning programs. For nonverbal children, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) apps can provide a voice, helping them express needs and emotions more effectively.


Beyond communication, iPads can support social skills, academic learning, and daily routines. Visual support and structured apps make abstract concepts easier to understand. However, balance is key. Excessive screen time may limit physical activity or face-to-face interaction, so parents should set clear boundaries and monitor usage.

When used intentionally, iPads can enhance independence and confidence. Pairing technology with evidence-based therapies like Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) ensures children gain skills that extend beyond the screen into real-life situations.
